    From what i know,and after searching the net confirming that, the first jet engine was invented by the romanian inventor Henri Coanda in 1910,and not by a british inventor, twenty years later. So i think he deserves the honor…

    1919 – John Alcock & Arthur W. Brown make first non-stop trans-Atlantic flight.
    1944 – Germany launches V2, first ballistic missile.
    1952 – de Havilland Comet, first jet airliner enters service.
    1959 – Luna 2 becomes first craft to impact the moon.
    1966 – Luna 9 becomes first craft to soft-land on the moon.
    1987 – Kvant 1 joins Mir base block, making Mir the first modular space station.

    Additional firsts include:
    1960 – Belka and Strelka become first animals to survive a round-trip to orbit.
    1961 – Gherman Titov becomes first man to sleep in space.
    1963 – Valentine Tereshkova becomes first woman is space.
